Heckington gets its own Pokestop
The reality mobile game Pokemon Go has taken the country by storm since being released in the UK earlier this month. Players use their mobile phones or tablets to catch, train and battle Pokemon monsters who appear on their device screens as if they were in the real world.
Players must physically go out and walk about in order to catch the Pokemon, with the developers choosing various landmarks and places of historical interest around the world as Pokestops.
A Pokestop is where you can stock up on items such as Pokeballs, eggs, incubators and potions, all required in order to catch the Pokemon and to play the game to its best capability.
Pokestops are all around the world with Heckington being no exception! Heckington has its own Pokestop situated at the Heckington War Memorial Monument on the village green.
Dont be surprised if you start to see an increase in people gathering around the monument with their mobile devices. They will be stocking up and searching for that elusive Pokemon monster!
The great thing about the Heckington Pokestop is its location, right in the middle of the village. WIth Heckington Show on the horizon it is sure to attract players to the village green and hopefully increase visitor numbers to the shops and pubs surrounding it. Whether you like it or loath it thats got to be a good thing for the village hasn't it?
Pokemon Go is fast becoming a worldwide phenomenon. It is appealing to people of all ages and abilities and very easy to play. Whether it is just a craze or fad remains to be seen, but in the meantime expect it to be a topic of conversation for some time to come.
